Civil War Program Visitation Girls' Academy as General Hospital No. 5 Scott Fullerton, Research Volunteer for the National Museum of Civil War Medicine and Visitation Academy shares more stories of life on the home front at the Catholic girls’ school, based on original letters, diaries, reports and other firsthand accounts, these are very human stories of amazing people in extraordinary times during the 1862 Maryland Campaign. Frederick, One Vast Hospital A Self Guided Civil War Tour A Civil War Walking tour of original, Historic Frederick, Maryland Campaign hospital sites include various churches and schools that were impressed as hospitals after the devastating battles of South Mountain and Antietam. Docents and living historians will portray many of the citizens that came forward to care for their wounded brethren, both Confederate and Union; including the Frederick Ladies Aid Society, the Sanitary Commission, surgeons, the pastors and citizens of Historic Frederick who answered the call in the fall of 1862.
